I’m thrilled that this project turned out! I thought for sure that this one was going to end up in the “Failed It” pile.
I am working on a gallery wall (I will share that adventure upon completion) and I was looking for unique wall art options. I took to Pinterest for inspiration and had to try my hand at DIY Pressed Flowers.
What you need:
- Flowers
- Scissors
- Paper towels
- Magazines
- Heavy books
- Frames
Gather your flowers – I selected wildflowers and flowers from the planters in my yard. Use scissors to cut the stems to leave a clean cut.
Arrange on paper towels – make sure the face or head of the flower is positioned the way you want in to sit in the frame. Double up the paper towel for both the bottom and top to absorb all the moisture, also the length of the towel should match the length of your books.
Press down – place the 2 ply paper towel on top of the flowers push down! The first layer of stacked materials should be a magazine to prevent color damage your books. The stack order I used was 1. Magazine 2. Flowers (wrapped in paper towel) 3. Magazine 4. Books.
Wait – Let the flowers sit and dry for 2 weeks.
Frame – I found these great floating frames at Joann’s and I love the effect! Unfortunately the pick colored flowers didn’t turn out very pretty. They’re brown and kind of gross. I don’t want them on my wall so I tossed them.
Show me how your pressed flowers turn out and let me know if you have any questions!
